Florida accepts PTCB-recognized pharmacy technician training programs

Florida requires pharmacy technicians to complete an approved pharmacy technician training program before becoming registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

As of August 6, 2026, Florida’s training requirements specifically recognize pharmacy technician training programs recognized by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) as preapproved programs under Florida Administrative Code Rule 64B16-26.351(1)(d).

Florida’s training requirements recently changed

Previously, Florida’s training requirements significantly limited the availability of fully online training options. Qualifying programs generally fell into specific categories such as accredited educational institutions, Florida public-school programs, military training, and certain other programs approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

PTCB recognition was not previously an accepted training pathway in Florida.

That changed in 2026. Florida now specifically includes PTCB-recognized pharmacy technician training programs among its preapproved training options.

Because some PTCB-recognized programs can be completed entirely online, this change gives Florida students much more flexibility in how they complete their required pharmacy technician training.

There is also an important distinction between PTCB-recognized training and PTCB certification. PTCB certification alone does not replace Florida's training requirement. PTCB certification by itself does not replace Florida’s pharmacy technician training requirement.
